Since 2006, the Regional Coordinating Committee (RCC) of the All Health Hazards Regions of Northern and Southern Carroll County have met consistently to create Public Health Emergency Preparedness Plans to address pandemics and bio terrorism events such as avian bird flu, anthrax and small pox.  The RCC consisted of representation from the Emergency Management Directors of Albany, Bartlett, Chatham, Conway, Eaton, Hart’s Location, Jackson and Madison in the North and Brookfield, Effingham, Freedom, Ossipee, Tamworth, Tuftonboro, Wakefield, and Wolfeboro.  Participation also included members from Memorial Hospital, Huggins Hospital, SAU #13, SAU #9, SAU #49, numerous health care centers as well as Ossipee Valley Mutual Aid, Tuftonboro Fire-Rescue, Conway Fire-Rescue and other Fire & EMS departments to ensure that public health emergencies would be handled in an organized and safe manner.  The goal in a public health emergency is to minimize damage to lives, property and the economy.

Today the RCC is convened under the auspices of the Carroll County Coalition for Public Health, joining the Northern and Southern Carroll County Public Health Emergency Plans and regions into one.  Currently our focus is to implement directives from the Department of Health and Human Services to facilitate a mass vaccination campaign for H1N1.  We are proud and delighted to have many great partners on board to assist us in coordination and planning, such as those members listed above as well as:  Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Northern Carroll County, Southern Carroll County VNA-Hospice and the Carroll County Sherriff’s Office.  We applaud the efforts of our partners in making planning a priority and helping us reach the 43,666 residents who may want to be vaccinated for H1N1 in the most efficient manner, so that those at greatest risk of hospitalization and death are vaccinated first.
